. . .
For the world is not painted or adorned, but is from the beginning beautiful; and God has not made some beautiful things, but Beauty is the creator of the universe.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson
. . .
Inundated with so much negative news — war, politics, environmental destruction – I’ve been urged by long time readers and supporters of this work to offer messages of hope, of positivity, of the beauty and mystery of nature and of life. I’m calling this series of posts “Meditations on Nature, Meditations on Silence” after the name of a popular book I published in 2009. Each will be a brief reflection, quote or poem and painting. Today’s Emerson is an effort in that direction.
Further to those efforts, in the next few days, Zen Mountain Journal will offer for pre-order a binder and the first of a series of binder chapters that can be used as the basis of a journaling practice, or read on its own as a standalone creative work. Each is based on the best content from the Substacks and sixteen books Zen Mountain Press and its predecessor, Heron Dance Press, has published over the last thirty years. Each will be published in full color and include art.
