The Tao Te Ching, Chapter One

Tao flows through all that is natural, invisible
It is the harmony underlying; it has a quiet stillness
Sensed, felt but beyond understanding
Beyond words, beyond names
Beyond thought, to chase it is to get lost
The creator of mountain, forest and river
Light and dark, yin and yang
The wind sings its song of silence.

I’m working on a new illustrated poetry diary based on my interpretation of the Tao Te Ching from the perspective of someone with a deep affinity for wild nature, and the sense of peace and harmony that can be found there. Above, my Chapter One.

Below, two more standard translations, both of which I also like:

The way that becomes a way
is not the Immortal Way
the name that becomes a name
is not the Immortal Name
no-name is the maiden of Heaven and Earth
name is the mother of all things
thus in innocence we see the beginning
in passion we see the end
two different names

The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao.
The name that can be named

Surviving Cancer

In the last six months, a number of long-time Heron Dance readers and supporters have told me of their recent serious diagnosis. I’ve spent hours sharing with many of them what I’ve learned.

I am a two-time cancer survivor including a terminal diagnosis thirty-five years ago (stage 4a non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma). I survived using a combination of conventional and experimental therapies identified through research and interview techniques I developed years ago as a investigative research analyst for corporate acquirers. These techniques can now be augmented with artificial intelligence.

In the next few days, I plan to launch “Surviving Cancer”, a new Substack on surviving a serious diagnosis. I’ll share with Heron Dance readers the first post of this new Substack, then keep the two separate. I may publish the first post as soon as tomorrow.

I plan to also offer in-depth research and coaching to people who have received a diagnosis of cancer, ALS, Alzheimer’s or other serious disease. The objective: investigate the myriad of options now open to those facing a serious diagnosis as a result of the rapidly evolving science, and to explore in an in-depth way any of particular interest. I’ll provide a link to an outline of that service in the post.
