Like raptors migrating on thermals
Wings steady, drifting
They travel thousands of miles with
Minimal effort.
A skilled paddler in a huge rapid
Establishes key pivot points
Points of leverage
Places her paddle there
And uses the power of the river in her favor.
Move in harmony with the flows.
The currents of life, of the universe
Are much bigger than you are.
Bend, don't break.
Surrender.

I can see the herons moving from these ancient verses.
